“Everybody needs some goodies to run on, and this is a chance to get some,” said Daniel Perrin, founder of the HSA Coalition, a nonprofit member of the alliance. Other members include Flex, HealthEquity, Monument Advocacy, the Alliance of Health Care Sharing Ministries and the American Bankers Association. The ABA’s members hold the vast majority of HSAs.

“Families are facing growing pressure from rising premiums, higher deductibles, and increasing uncertainty about what they can afford,” said Randall Hultgren, executive director of the Alliance of Health Care Sharing Ministries (HCSMs). “Health Care Sharing Ministries offer an escape from the insurance trap. HCSMs are a faith-centered approach to health care that allows members an affordable, responsible, and caring alternative to insurance. Members share one another’s medical burdens while maintaining greater control over their health care decisions.”
A poll of 1,600 likely voters was conducted by McLaughlin & Associates on behalf of the Great American Health Alliance found that 79% of likely voters believe the U.S. healthcare system is either in crisis or facing major problems, while 76% said they are highly concerned about out-of-pocket costs such as premiums, deductibles and co-pays.
The findings come as congressional Republicans prepare the next phase of reconciliation legislation and healthcare advocates push for reforms aimed at lowering costs and giving consumers greater control over healthcare spending.
As congressional Republicans prepare the next phase of reconciliation legislation, a growing coalition of healthcare reform advocates is urging lawmakers to seize what they describe as a once-in-a-generation opportunity to lower healthcare costs, expand patient control, and challenge the influence of insurers and healthcare middlemen.
The effort is being driven by the Great American Health Alliance, which is lobbying Congress to include a series of healthcare reforms in what supporters are calling “Reconciliation 3.0.” The proposals include expanding access to Health Savings Accounts, increasing healthcare price transparency, lowering prescription drug costs, and allowing Americans to use health dollars on wellness and preventative care.
House Budget Committee Chairman Jodey Arrington (TX-19) outlined a three-part reconciliation strategy centered on funding the troops, cutting fraud, and delivering relief on healthcare and housing costs. Arrington pointed to specific RSC-backed proposals including health savings account expansion, cost sharing reduction reforms that CBO projects would lower Affordable Care Act premiums by 11 percent, penalty-free 401(k) withdrawals for down payments, and capital gains relief for home sales.
